On Friday 17th May Rooms 6 & 19 got together again to begin brainstorming the things we could put into our newspaper in groups. Each child chose an aspect they were interested in and formed groups to brainstorm what could feature.
We have groupos for:
Editors
General Journalists
Sports Journalists
Bloggers
Photography and Videography
Puzzles and Entertainment

Here are some of our first ideas.

School Newspaper
Room 19 have teamed up with Room 6 to develop a school newspaper. This will come out in print later in the year but will also have an online component too. Here we are last Friday searching the newspaper for what we could include in ours.

Magnificent Marine
Our science topic of the Magnificent Marine is well under way. Students are choosing activities about marine creatures and environments based on a Multiple Intelligences grid. We have dioramas, experiments, games, scale models and more on the go! Take a look below and some work in progress.
Origami sea creatures to add to a diorama showing creatures that live in the different zones in the ocean.
Scale model sea creatures sculptured out of playdough. Workings for the scaled sizes were done on excel.
Planning for an explanation of a phenomenon about a sea creature in the form of a myth (invented by the students individually)
Writing the myth using the iPad on a programme called 'Book Creator'. Completed myths will be published on our writing blog: http://room19literacy2013.blogspot.co.nz/

Art - painting
We have begun doing some painting this term and did our first session yesterday. We are creating tonal bars - showing the transition of a colour into white and black. Shapes were then cut out from one half of the painting and glued onto the other half. Not bad for a first go.
